This article explores some basic theories of politeness in the context of a
communicative strategy in the framework of intercultural communication. The
main points of the semantic rule of the founder of the theory of politeness R.
Lakoff and one of the most influential theories of politeness developed by P.
Brown and S. Levinson are described.
